Publisher FAQs

I am a publisher/author with a book that would be a perfect Nutmeg Book Award nominee.  Can I suggest a title for consideration by the Nutmeg Selection Committee?

Yes. Keep in mind our selection committee meets from October - September, so the earlier in that calendar you submit suggestions, the more likely they are to be considered.  The book must meet our criteria for submission.

If a book is selected as a Nutmeg Book Award nominee, about how many copies would be needed?

Hard to say.  Guesstimates suggest that Connecticut libraries and school libraries purchase somewhere between 2,000 and 10,000 copies of each nominee, not including purchases made by children themselves, but there are many factors that enter into that computation, and no data exists to support those estimates.

I would like to become a sponsor of the Nutmeg Book Award.  How do I do that?

Contact this year's Steering Co-chairs.  Our sponsors make much of the work of the Nutmeg Book Award possible, along with an all volunteer Steering Committee.  It's incredible how much work is done annually by such a small group of dedicated librarians and school media specialists.  Sponsors contribute through donations, services, and actual financial support.  The Nutmeg Book Award reserves the right to decide what constitutes permitted sponsorship.

Will I receive advance notification of the list of Nutmeg nominees so I can print up order forms or let my customers know about the titles?

In exchange for support, sponsors (and only sponsors) receive advance notification of the upcoming year's list of nominees.  Sponsors are bound by our confidentiality agreement and must keep the titles confidential until February 1st of each year.  They may share the title lists with librarians and media specialists for ordering and promotional purposes, but may not post the lists on public websites or promote them in places to which the general public has access until February 1st.  This includes: websites, public events, library catalogs, distributed literature, email, booksales, and any other form of communication that has the possibility of reaching the general public, most especially students, before the February 1st announcement of each year's new titles.

By their participation in the Nutmeg Book Award, librarians, school media specialists, teachers, book sale organizers, and all other school-associated personnel also agree to abide by the confidentiality clause.  While slip ups do occur, by and large, our Nutmeg Book Award community does a phenomenal job of keeping the new titles secret for the sake of Connecticut children until the annual announcement date of February 1st.
