Nutmeg News!

The timeline of the Nutmeg Book Award has shifted to match the school year
instead of the calendar year. The new list will be announced to CASL & CLA
members on February 14th and to the public on May 1st; just in time to kick off summer reading.
Students will then read the nominees throughout the summer and the following school year.
Voting will take place in April. With this change, students who are currently reading
the 2013 nominees will have a few extra months to read before they have to vote.

Here is a breakdown of the new dates:

October 1st:   Student & librarian selection committee applications are posted to website
December 15th:   Student & librarian selection committee applications due
February 14th:   CASL/CLA top secret announcement of nominees
April (all votes in by April 30th) Student Voting
May 1st:  Public announcement of nominated books
May 15th:  Winning books from April voting are announced

We are also proud to share that The Nutmeg Book Award is growing!

We currently have the Intermediate Award for students in grades 4-6,
the Teen Award for students in grades 7-8, and the new 2014 High School Award for students in grades 9-12.

Starting in 2015, there will be a fourth level to the award for students in grades 2-4.
With these additions, The Nutmeg Book Award will be an important part of literacy from elementary school right through high school graduation!

If you have any questions about these changes,
please contact Lisa Garofalo lgarofalo [at] ellingtonschools.net or
Joan Stokes jrstokes [at] yahoo.com, Co-Chairs of the Nutmeg Steering Committee.
